The beach in winter retains its beauty while creating a sense of calm that summer just cannot replicate. Spending a laugh-filled February afternoon with Shannon + Anthony on Long Beach Island was wonderful, even if it was pretty chilly! After checking out the beauty of the Williams Cottage Inn, we wandered Barnegat Lighthouse State Park, near where the couple spent their first date together. And although I do love a wintry beach scene, I am looking forward to May, when I get to photograph S + A's vintage-and-rustic-inspired shore wedding in the warmth!
Two of my very favorite city lovebirds, Aileen + Kevin, are getting married in Chicago during the summer of 2014. We spent a wintered, glittering afternoon together, trying to stay warm and loving every minute of a very Chicago December day. A visit to Optimo Hats and the Monadnock building was followed by a walk along the chilly river, with a final stop at Travelle for a whiskey warm-up. Congrats, you two!
Combination Family + Maternity sessions are so special and filled with anticipation. I was glad to be able to spend time with and capture a moment like this in the family life of Cheryl + Chris Woods, who recently welcomed beautiful twins into their home, which already includes the adorable Harper, and pups Gretchen + Grace. They are a truly awesome Chicago family...congratulations on the new additions!
Prior to my move to Chicago nearly five years ago, I attempted my first personal photographic series: portraits of my dear friends taken around our beloved New York City. The project perfectly combined two of my favorite things: creating visual narrative and spending time celebrating the people I love and admire. Being involved with the theater community has always filled my life with vibrant characters, and now more than ever, I cherish the opportunity to photograph and linger with them.
TC and I met during our time training at iO Improv Chicago. His energy and talent are undeniable, and I was thrilled to be able to photograph him during lush daylight at one of the theater spaces in which he often performs. We were aiming for some classic portraits, bordering on badass-James-Dean-style, but with TC, it's impossible not to articulate visually a sense of vulnerability and boyish warmth. The session was lovely, and I look forward to seeing what happens next for this hardworking and infinitely captivating friend.
