Alexis Buryk, Owner + lead photographer
I would describe myself as a minimalist on the outside, Liberace on the inside.
Obsessed with: dogs, dog-like cats, oysters, urban planning, and really excellent stand-up comedy.
I'm originally from the majestic state of New Jersey, and live in the Ditmars section of Astoria, Queens.
When I'm not photographing weddings, you can bet I'm either reading or writing fiction (currently working on a project set in Pennsylvania coal country, where my grandfather grew up), watching or rewatching great television (most recently rewatched: Seinfeld, and yes, it was still as spectacular as ever), or adventuring with friends and my husband, Scott (local faves include Arthur Ave in the Bronx, Jersey City, and the Rockaways).
My approach to photography is to honor above all the experience my couples and their community are having together on the wedding day. Photography is only important because your wedding is important, not the other way around. I'm there to capture the spirit of the day and the people gathered there, so you can relive the atmosphere, moments, and genuine energy of the day you celebrated the commitment you're making to each other as partners.

what City Love couples are saying:
"At the wedding, Alexis made not just me but all of our guests feel comfortable
in front of the camera. She is so adept and so confident in her craft and so capable.
She shepherded us through what was an otherwise daunting day
with such poise and grace and good humor.
I have Alexis to thank for feeling present on my wedding day."

"We did not want the conventional "posed" wedding pictures-
we were going for a much more genuine journalistic/ documentary approach.
The candid moments are the types of pictures that break your heart with awe. You can literally hear the laughter, tears, music and clinking of glasses as you scroll through the shots...
Our favorite part is how she was so natural and calm (even with our overwhelming doting Italian family) that there were times we didn't even notice she was there.
She was voyeuristic at the best times and yet in moments where it was hectic and we felt overwhelmed she was instrumental, extremely organized and provided structure.
She also was so much fun! On top of her eye for BRILLIANT photography, she has an amazing sense of humor. My friend snapchatted me dancing like a mad woman to Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance With Somebody and in the corner of the frame Alexis (unbeknownst she was being filmed) is taking pictures of the party and singing along to the song- having a blast! That 7 second clip speaks volumes about her sparkling personality.
She truly loves what she does and it shows in the amazing finished product."

Alexis is an absolute dream to work with!
She was the kindest and most generous of all our wedding vendors.
She took the time to make sure my husband and I were happy, prepared, and supported throughout the whole wedding planning process.
For example, my husband was having a hard time getting on board with being "introduced" at the reception. When he voiced this at our final meeting before the big day, Alexis simply said, "Just don't do it."
What a eye opening moment for us! And we wholeheartedly took her advice from then on.
On the big day my brother-in-law commented, "is your photographer your friend? She seems like someone you would hang out with. She's really cool." Perfectly sums up how awesome she was to us and our guests.
Then about a month after our wedding we got the most beautiful photos.
She perfectly captured us, our family, our friends, and the details of our wedding...
She made the photos look as special as we felt that day.
Honestly, I will be forever grateful that we found her. You will be so happy to have her on your team!
